ISO22000 is a food safety and quality management systems designed to help organizations like ours ensure that they meet the needs of customers while simultaneously adhering to statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product. ISO22000 is a stringent standard that goes above and beyond ISO9001 held by most in the packaging industry.
Within ISO22000 are Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP). This is used as a science-based control mechanisms that identifies the hazards associated with processing food or packaging and establishes the production points where those risks can be virtually eliminated.
For example if there is a risk that a lubricant used by the machinery may come into contact with any products during operations, then only NSF H1 incidental contact registered lubricants should be used. Otherwise there is the risk of contamination. We don’t want to find ourselves in that pickle which is why we use ISO22000 to mange risk and quality issues like this.
